Get Your Own Wordpress Blog
Starting a blog is an easy thing to do, especially with hosting companies like Blogspot and Wordpress leading the way with their free services. These are ok if you don’t care much about flexibility or marketing and just want to jump into writing, photography or whatever it is you want to blog about. Having your own WordPress site has several advantages that make it worth doing for anyone looking to carve out a piece of the Internet pie.
First things first, any domain name ending in .blogspot or .wordpress appears to be less professional than a URL that is, for example, your name or perhaps a keyword loaded name describing what it is you want to blog about. Why is that important? There are likely more than one person with the same name as you. Get that name ASAP and hold onto it. If you can’t, some variation with you name in it will have to do, or perhaps settling for a .net domain name instead of a .com may suffice.
What about the keyword loaded URL? That is a way to help your rankings in Google and other search engines. Outside of advertising, the search engines are the best free ways to get traffic to your site. You do realize though that competition for certain terms can be very serious, and some people pay lots of money to get those high placements in the rankings. I know of several ways that are free and easy to do to help push your site up in the rankings. Good content is the real key to any site, and with the right help it could really take off!
Another reason to get your own site is something that may or may not interest you. Being able to apply legal techniques for making your site stronger in the search engines is something that you probably can’t do. I can, and have experience doing this specifically for WordPress and Drupal CMS systems. It’s just one less thing that you don’t need to think about.
Another benefit of having your own domain name is the ease of monetizing your site. You can use services like Adsense, Commission Junction, Kontera, and any of the myriad of advertising companies available online. more traffic to your site likely means more income generated for you.
One of the things I do and do well is work with WordPress. There are many things to think about when setting up a blog, and if you aren’t very web savvy they can be tedious and cause you to back out.
